Microfilm and microfiche require special readers and are prone to loss or misfiling. 

Some of our recent clients converted city building permits, from microfiche, and water records, from microfilm, to PDF (Adobe Portable Document File Format) files that are easily accessible to the entire network. 

While microfilm and microfiche are considered to be the gold standard for archiving files, the process does have its problems.  Microfilm and Microfiche do degrade in quality making the film / fiche unreadable.  During one period the developing process used caused premature film degradation.

Floppy Disks (5.25", 3.5")

You may have noticed that computers are not selling with floppy disk these days.  Gone are the 5.25" disks and the more ubiquitous 3.5" disks.  The CD and more recently the DVD have been rapidly replacing those media formats.
