This booklet provides you with a basic
understanding of the scanning process and document management.
There are multitudes of scanning
software programs available but we find that the
ScandAll software offers a variety of features,
is intuitive and easy to use.
Adobe Acrobat may be familiar to many because of the free Adobe Reader which allows the user to read PDF files. PDF (Portable Document Format) is the file format used by the U.S. Government for archiving documents. The full version of Adobe Acrobat is a feature rich program.
Adobe Acrobat can save the scanned image in a variety of file formats which look exactly like the original, including handwritten notes.
Additionally, OCR (Optical Character Recognition) can convert typewritten text from a scanned document into searchable text. Type in a search term or terms and Acrobat will search all of the selected documents or files for each occurrence.
The intent of this booklet is to enable you to successful scan a document using the software provided with user defined or default settings; save the document to a specified file; apply user defined identifiers; set permission access (security features); and retrieve the document when needed.
